Mother's Day gifts

As we quickly approach Mother's Day, I am reminded at what seems last minute, that I need to get a gift off to my mom and mother in law...and like now!  I knew the day was coming but with so many other things on my mind, I put it off.  They both live in other states and with my husband being a minister in our church, we won't be visiting with them this weekend.  So it is imperative that I get them in the mail!  

Well, today was the day for getting something done and I spent the majority of the day doing it.  I wanted to create something unique for the occasion and came up with these rosettes.

Now, the idea with these rosettes is that our moms are to wear them like corsages.  But I also wanted them to resemble wearing a ribbon that honored them as our mom.

I hot glued a pin on the back for wearing.  I am so excited for them to get these and am sure they will wear them with pride.  

I used my Cricut Ribbons and Rosettes cartridge to cut out the rosettes.  I then embellished them, using a lot of hot glue to keep it all together.

Decluttering and DIY's

I began 'decluttering' my kitchen this week.  It was lined with the typical appliances...toaster, coffee maker, blender, as well as, my large grape canisters.  But this week, I cleared it out!  I got in and scrubbed the back splash and the counters and then put things away.  Those grape canisters are gone...now replaced with smaller clear canisters I found while thrifting at the Salvation Army.  I put the toaster oven and blender away to clear the counters.  It feels good to have a clean kitchen.  

My husband started working on our master bathroom.  We are only doing a few cosmetic changes in there, so it shouldn't take too long to complete.  

My DIY this week comes from another Pinterest idea. I want to have a more farmhouse country feel in my kitchen so I am going to incorporate Mason and Ball jars into our home.

    I took an empty Mason jar and converted it into a soap dispenser.  The pump I used was from an empty lotion bottle.  After cleaning the pump, my husband punched a hole into the lid of the jar and glued the pump into the lid with hot glue. (He was sneaky and worked on my project last night before I got a chance to get to it!   He did a good job on it.)  Though I was looking forward to finishing this project today, I am thankful that my husband got it done for me.

A New Look on Some Old Things

I just love Pinterest.  It is loaded with great ideas.  Today, I found a project I had to try for the main bathroom in my house.  The bathroom had a complete renovation and we have just finished it.  It needs the rug and shower curtain and then I can proudly post all pictures of it.  Until then, I have been gathering items with my color scheme.  

Here's what I did...

I took this glass and vase 

and this paint..Bahamas Blue Americana Acrylic Paint.

I poured the paint into the containers and layered the inside well.  After letting it dry for a few hours, this is what it looks like.

  

Here's how they look on my new shelf in the bathroom.

The walls are a light (VERY LIGHT) gray, the trim and wainscoting are white.  The yellow candles and turquoise blue containers are the accent colors for the bathroom.  I LOVE the way it turned out!

Vintage Cards

I went to rummage sales this past weekend and found a new treasure! Someone was selling bags full of old photographs. Some of the photos were dated back to the 30's, all were black and white, and each had a story to tell. I thought it would be fun to give the photos a new life on a card. With a little lace and old buttons, I hope to create a whole new look to my vintage style.

Special Containers

I used a baby formula can to create this gift.  After wrapping the can in paper, I cut out the baby's name from my Cricut, added ribbons on the rims and flower embellishments to her name.  The lid was covered with paper, ribbon and a larger flower embellishment.  The can could be used to hold hair accessories or a slit could be cut into the top to create a piggy bank.

This Memory Jar was created to celebrate Mary's 50 years of service in the nursing field.  Her favorite colors are blue and yellow so those two colors became my base colors for the entire jar.  I used lots of different paper and ribbons.

cartridge on the Cricut to create nursing embellishments for the jar.  The cartridge even includes bandaids!
